I write today to let you know that I will be giving a free webinar next Wednesday (13th May) at lunchtime (1200-1300 BST) as a guest of the Financial Services Club.

Continuing my fine tradition of being broadly incapable of giving things sufficiently short names, the title of the presentation is:

"Immunising Your Investments: Sensible Investing Through A Global Pandemic (And Everything Else Besides)"

To give a bit of background on the event: In 2017, I was honoured to contribute a guest chapter to Harriman House’s prestigious “New Book of Investing Rules” alongside investment greats such as John Bogle, Anthony Bolton and Gervais Williams.

The title of the chapter was: “How to invest so that crashes don’t matter."

I looked at how someone might go about arranging their investments in a way that would make financial crashes a great deal less worrisome. I then presented these ideas to an audience at the FS Club last year. You can see the video of that presentation here: "Building Robust Investment Strategies".

The unprecedented volatility in so many financial markets so far in 2020 has served as a reminder of how important these themes are. This year has reminded us, yet again, how crucial it is that we calibrate our investments for all seasons - that we “immunise” them.

In next my talk next Wednesday, I will explain how anyone can build a suitably “immunised" portfolio by using two fundamental and elegant approaches to how they invest:

  1. First: Broadly optimised asset-allocation based on the idea of “100 minus your age”.
  2. Second: Ensuring that you “own the world” - that is to say that you ensure that you have investments in all major asset classes and in all major regions of the world.

When used together, these two broad approaches to investment will maximise your chances of making consistent and significant investment returns and, arguably of even more importance, minimise your stress levels along the way.

As part of the talk, I will look at how important it is to invest rather than to trade and at how you really should totally and utterly ignore "the news” as part of that process. I will also explore the role of technology and the importance of "Moore’s law" - ("the most important theme in human history") - for your thought process: For investment and for lots else besides.

If you would like to find out more about the event and / or register to join us, please don't hesitate to sign up below. As a reminder:
