The community is an ongoing source of financial education, inspiration and the accountability that goes hand in hand with being part of a group of like-minded individuals on a similar journey.
It is hosted in an exclusive Facebook group and designed to be a support tool for you to help get your financial house in order. The group exchanges views, ideas and opinions about personal finance. We would like to think that being part of it will significantly increase the chance that you will take action to get your finances sorted once and for all - the ultimate purpose of the whole thing.
The group is open to anyone, from those who are just getting started on their financial journey, to seasoned investors - many of whom often share their knowledge with the rest of the community. The team at Plain English Finance are members, as you would expect, including our founder, Andrew Craig. You can ask any question you like and he or the team will come back to you as soon as they can.
It is important to understand that the group is NOT a forum for giving members specific investment recommendations or personal, tailored investment advice.
The primary purpose of the community is to give you access to reasonably timely support with all the "process" type questions that people so often have about getting their finances sorted. The focus, then, is on all that nuts and bolts process stuff which is so important to your financial success: The types of account you might use (ISA, SIPP etc...), direct debits, which brokers, how much you might save, what to do about property…
Of course we encourage discussions and questions on lots else besides and Andrew is more than happy to answer questions about different funds and other investments but this can only ever be in general terms and never as specific, personal recommendations.
Our community is hosted within Facebook Groups, so you can access discussions from anywhere using the Facebook app or website.
When you join the PEF Community, you will be sent an invitation to the email address you signed up with (between 9am - 5pm, Mon - Fri). Once you have accepted the invitation, you will have full access to the group.
When you join the PEF community, you will receive your copy of Andrew's "Complete Guide to Owning the World" - Now in its second edition and updated for 2018, this is a 32 page document designed to help you get your finances humming.
Access to the group, including your copy of 'The Complete Guide', is charged on a 'pay what you wish' basis. We know that our audience includes people from all walks of life and a large cross section of different levels of income and wealth. Our hope is that by making the community available on a 'pay what you wish' basis, the wealthier members of our community can subsidise those who are just starting out who will get huge benefit from being part of our community from a young age.
We know that many of the wealthier members of our community think that paying the equivalent of a couple of coffees or two glossy magazines a month, to be a part of this group, is great value. (Online / email services that make specific investment or trading recommendations invariably cost ten or even more times that sum - quite often as much as thousands of pounds a year). For those of our audience who are students, for example, £5 or £10 a month has a meaningful impact on their budget.
Because we are on a mission to spread financial literacy far and wide, we have wanted to be as inclusive as possible - we are hopeful that the 'pay what you wish' charging model will enable us to do just that...
